Melyssa Stone is a rising star in the Seattle jazz scene. Her stylings and subtle phrasing have earned her top honors in the Pacific Northwest. She has performed with artists Ben Folds, Dee Daniels, the New York Voices, John Pizzarelli, Darmon Meader, Alan White, Steve Turre, Carmen Bradford, Bill Ramsey, Barney McLure, Louise Rose, Daniel Bernard Roumain, Kerry Marsh, Bernadette Bascom, and more.
Melyssa is a native of the Midwest. Daughter of an educator and musician, there was never a moment of silence growing up. Her house was always filled with music, and often it was Melyssa and her siblings making it. Take 6, Ella Fitzgerald, and the Motown greats were household sounds of childhood for her. It was there that her love for performing and for sharing the gift of music flourished.
When her family moved to the Pacific Northwest, her musical upbringing continued. To her list of instruments she added the saxophone and viola/violin. During her time studying Music Education/Vocal Performance in college, she was able to use her knowledge of jazz and hip-hop to work with New York artist Daniel Bernard Roumain, Artist-in-Residence at the Moore Theatre. During 3 years of show production, Melyssa was gaining exposure to the possibilities of fusion, and her love of collaborating with artists of all genres. Since then, Melyssa has presented at various workshops with the Seattle International Children’s Festival, Seattle Theatre Group and Paramount Theatre. Her work also includes collaborations with the Experience Music Project Museum in the Seattle Center.
Melyssa is a fierce arts advocate and a vocalist with national performer and fellow advocate Ben Folds.
She currently teaches and directs with the premiere Northwest Girlchoir. She also performs in jazz legend Frank DeMiero’s Seattle Jazz Singers.
As a soloist, Melyssa is performing in (but certainly not limited to) the greater-Seattle area, and is available for weddings, corporate events, parties, and lessons.
